I hear you Bad VAto™ about your complain about rich folks preaching about change and doing nothing but talk. I'd venture to say that it goes beyond economic status and that people are sleepwalking regardless of their incomes. Humans tend to be lazyminded. One thing I do believe however is that deep inside, everyone wishes they can be more action than words, and this is exactly what this site is attempting to do. To wake people up who are sleepwalking, nudging them to do something—anything to get the momentum going. If it's as simple as taking a look at our own habits of consumption, and decide to become dedicated to recycling in your own home, that's a small but easy step to start a journey of a lifetime of incrementally bigger changes. It's the first step that is the hardest in any journey.

Not everyone will be active. We need to accept that. Others will be late bloomers (as I am) and other will be even later bloomers, skeptics to the end.

We can complain, or we can act. The second is much more difficult, but much more rewarding for the individual and for everyone in the person's life who is touched and inspired to make better choices.

What we should continually ask ourselves is: What am I doing to make things better? What can I do differently today, this week, this month to take a baby step forward?

welcome to the site.
i like your moto "less talking and more doing"
i hope to start getting some action done in our community as well. in the meantime, start in your own little domain. changing lightbulbs, composting, coserving energy, waste and other non-renewable is the first step toward sustainability.
good luck and looking forward to hear your action stories

What book, article, film etc. caused your awakening?
Actually, it was while watching Live Earth. I realized how much waste alone was produced from those concerts.
What do you wish were different about your town/city
It's hard to say there's so many rich people in one compact area preaching about change. They've got the spare change to throw around and make a difference. All they do is talk about change. Less talking more doing.

I joined this social network because I was very curious to see how people in this network wanted to change our environment. First, starting on a local scale and then hopefully reaching others through thoughts and ideas and spread beyond NJ/NY. Good, great lets get this going.

As I click through the recent forums I can't help but feel disappointed and slightly confused. I didn't know this place was going to turn into a political pissing contest. Everyone here has different views, faiths… Continue
