1. The Scope of the group, should be on providing safer and healthier enviroment to our community next generation by utilizing our mutual interest in children's education, reducing waste, and empowering others.
2.We agreed on the following short term goals to be achieved in the next six months:
a.Complete the ecoteam program
b.Create an organic gardening program for kids
c.Initiate arts and crafts project from wasted materials.
d. Promote a cleaner and safer recreation experience by presenting a public recycling program for Nyack's Broadway and main street, with emphasis on memorial park's playground to the Nyack board.
e.Celebrate nature by having a fall party, hiking together, and paying attention to the wildlife in our backyards.
3.We discussed the following long term goals:
a.campain to reduce waste in our community by promote better recycling, compost, water and energy conservation measures and nature awareness.
b. using the website to share our experience with others and coach or create more ecoteams.
4.We agreed to use the website forum to discuss our experiences and report to the leader and to meet once a month for two hours to discuss our progress.

This group might be interested in the work of a community coalition in Rockland County called The Rockland Farm Alliance. We are working to help support the few remaining farms in Rockland and to grow sustainable farming in the County. Any support from like minded people would be appreciated. The group is spearheaded by John McDowell and Alexandra Spadea, who run a biodynamic farm in Pomona (Camp Hill Farm).
The Farm Alliance will be holding a community wide meeting on Nov. 19th, to present an update to the county on our efforts and we'd LOVE the support of anyone with a little bit of time and a lot of interest in our project. Comment by Yelena Silverman on May 8, 2008 at 5:17pm - I read an article on cooperative cooking (http://www.coopamerica.org/pubs/realmoney/articles/cooperativemeals.cfm) and think it would be a great way to make higher quality, local, organic food more affordable for more people. Is anyone interested in trying it out?

- I don't know if this is the best forum for an announcement, but there is an upcoming lecture/workshop day on 5/31 in Bedford, NY that should be of interest to this group. The keynote speaker is John Cronin of the Beacon Institute. The workshop topics are: 'Greening your Life'; 'Advocacy'; What Has Changed and What Needs Changing'; and 'What We Eat'. It is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of NY and it's a $20 registration fee. Call 914.693.3848 to register (I got a flyer at the library).
