Last night, a few us from the Sierra Club attended the Nyack Village Board meeting to encourage Nyack to sign on to the US Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement. It is part of the Cool Cities campaign where cities and villages commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by a certain percentage by 2012. So far, more than 960 cities and villages have signed the agreement. The Nyack board was very in favor of it and seems quite enthusiastic.
Mayor Shields will sign the agreement on Earth Day. We are hoping to get the Upper Nyack and South Nyack mayors to sign on that day as well. If anyone can us help make that happen, let us know.
