An excerpt from an email I received from the rock-net email group:

Rockland Green Map is looking for site suggestions and volunteers

The purpose of the Rockland Green Map
project is to make green and sustainable resources available for
residents of and visitors to our beautiful county. The map will show
organizations, businesses and places that promote a green living or
sustainable practices for the future. This includes all local or organic
farms or agricultural sites, parks, places where sustainable, organic
and fair trade products are available and other cultural, and historical
resources that has an ecological touch to it. Researching sites for the
map, we have learned a lot about the local governments and their
excellent environmental work, as well as the wealth of local
organizations that work make Rockland County an even better place to
live. We are part of the local-global organization Green Map System
(www.greenmap.org ) which gives support and
ideas to green grass-roots map makers. They also provide a set of
award-winning icons which will are the symbols we will use on the map.

Only with community involvement the map can be a truly helpful document.

Can you help us by suggesting sites to the map?

On our website
you can find all the types of
features that can be mapped. There is also an on-line form where you can
type in the place, organization or business you would like to nominate
for the map. If you would like to volunteer and share the fun work of
data collection (finding features that can go on the map), add fresh
ideas, and be part of the upcoming design and printing process please
